‘Zero’
2 x Balconies, Foil Balloon, Russian Helium, Fishing line
NCCA Artist in residence
Kronstadt. Russia
2015
Readymade Helium balloon strategically positions between a pair of balconies, position outside the artist in residence studio. The artist also flew the ‘Zero’ from the nearby bridge held by fishing line. The locations were chosen for their structure of linking of opposing sides representing the beginnings and end of an unknown journey, combined with the principle meaning of ‘Zero’. It is the starting point from which all other numbers follow. The same principle can be applied to events in life, the point at which potentially comes into being. Based on the concept conceived by the ancient Indian philosophers, believed that zero, or nothingness/emptiness, is not null as it appears, but is an excellent source of inspiration, creation and engagement.
