Kronstadt (Kotlin Island). Russia
2015
A homage to Russian artist, Kazimir Malevich ‘Black Square’ painting seen in The Hermitage Museum, 100 year anniversary since it was conceived and performed inside an abandoned Naval Academy of Kronstadt, an area of decline naval base and dockyard, inspired by soldiers routinely marching outside. This simple act, combined with charcoal and a piece of paper, reveals a squared silhouette surrounded by fragments of crushed charcoal. Kimvi’s ‘Black Square’ refers to the process of drawing. The action of the artist directly recorded onto the surface of the Naval Academy and the piece of paper.
