Impromptu performance: In the July heat, “Leaf Tongue Offering” unfolds as an intimate ritual of transformation and exchange. The title suggests a synthesis of the human and the natural, proposing that speech and taste are surrendered and reshaped through nature. The artist’s choice of a yellow leaf, found on site and selected for its specific shape, size, and resonance with the artist’s own tongue is crucial. Its colour embodies the intensity of summer, a moment of beauty before wilting. Placing it inside the mouth, where it is hidden from sight—is an act of intimate transformation. When the artist exposes the “leaf tongue,” the organ of human speech is replaced by a silent piece of nature. The performance culminates in a moist offering: instead of handing the leaf over, the artist licks an audience member’s outstretched palm, transferring the leaf directly from mouth to palm. The gesture folds many forms of closeness into one ritual act. What’s handed over isn’t just a leaf—it’s a remnant of the artist’s interior life.
