Body of Water

Transparent Plastic Bag & Rice Field Water

Jingdezhen.China

2026

Performance part of The 2nd Chai Jingdezhen international performance art festival

The performance is a ritual of connection and return, performed in the rice fields of Jingdezhen during a heavy downpour, the lingering effect of a typhoon that passed without direct impact. The storm’s closeness was felt, its energy present in the rain that fell from the sky to meet the water held in the earth of the field. I positioned my body as a vessel between these two bodies of water, sky and land, seeking to close the distance between them.

The performance is rooted in the female water deities to whom offerings are made for a good harvest. To honor this tradition,I sought not to represent the deity but to temporarily embody a life-giving, feminine form. The material chosen was a human-scale transparent plastic bag, folded hand size and hidden within my dark clothing. I walked the boundary of the field , moving toward a bamboo platform where the hidden material was slowly revealed.

Under the downpour, I descended into the field, allowing the murky water to fill the transparent form. Draping it around me, the water settled into pockets on either side, shaping what resembled a pair of watering breasts, while my face remained concealed behind the liquid facade
