‘the creation of an experience of beauty and togetherness and experience intuitive ways of relating to and cooperating with others…a model for peace in society' - Prof. June Boyce Tilman

A group of participants each created a personal mandala made from matchsticks during the Holocaust Memorial Day held on the 27th January at Winchester Cathedral. The mandalas focus the attention of practitioners as a spiritual guidance tool, for establishing a sacred space and as an aid to meditation. The overall effect was seen as a ripple of energy spreading across the surface of the Cathedral floor. The matchsticks mandalas were swept away during the end of the service, leaving no trace of the act.

27th January is Holocaust Memorial Day, a national day of commemoration in the United Kingdom, dedicated to the remembrance of those who suffered in The Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution, and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur. It was first held in January 2001 and has been on the same date every year since. The chosen date is the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp by the Soviet Union in 1945.

Thank you to everyone for their participation.
