As part of the 10 Days Winchester Art Festival.
A live public engaged action, performed during the opening night of ‘ 10 days’ Winchester Art Festival. Questioning expectation of behavior in public and cultural spaces, bridging the language between the spectator and the role of art in the local community.
Invitation of participation was answered around the community of Winchester and beyond to take part in a silent durational outdoor sitting. The performance was a silent protest highlighting the lack of funding for local artists to create meaningful engaged community projects. All artists, materials, and participants time were all kindly donated.
The location of The Discovery Centre courtyard inspired the narrative of the performance, situated directly opposite Winchester Theatre Royal. The performance mirrored the act of going to the theatre. The outside ‘audience’ sat on identical chairs placed central to the courtyard, staring at the brick wall of The Theatre Royal in silence for 90 minutes whilst an event occurred inside the Theatre Royal,
