Beeswax Sculpture
Beeswax, Enamel cooking pot
NCCA Artist in residence
Kronstadt. Russia
2015
Performed privately with a fixed camera in the kitchen of the artist residency. The performance is a material response to the beeswax candles seen inside the Russian Orthodox Naval cathedral of Saint Nicholas in Kronstadt, inspires the ritualistic process between artist and material. Sheets of beeswax placed inside the enamel pot, melted on the stove until it transformed into a liquid. The liquid wax is cooled down to room temperature before hands are repeatedly dipped. The action continues until the wax returns into a solid-state. The remaining wax is either embedded into the enamel pot or seen as an artefact created from the process. The artist process of material transformation could be seen as an act similar to Penance.
