45 minutes live performance
2 x Umbrellas
Lindenlei Nucleo
Gent, Belgium
2018
Black gentleman umbrellas are seen as a homage to Belgium Surrealist painter René Magritte, well known for creating several witty and thought-provoking images. They were often depicting ordinary objects in an unusual context, challenging the observers' preconditioned perceptions of reality. The umbrellas during the performance move slowly, lifted from the ground and held in a fixed position in 2 minutes intervals, moving the umbrellas gradually up and down the body. This action is repeated twice within the 45 minutes time frame.
